Motorways and dual carriageways allow traffic to travel faster and in greater safety than on ordinary roads, but it’s vital to know the rules that apply on them.

Joining a motorway or dual carriageway

Slip roads allow you to join a motorway or dual carriageway.

Use the slip road to accelerate until your speed matches that of the traffic on the motorway.
Check there’s a suitable gap in the left-hand lane.
Use the Mirrors – Signal – Manoeuvre/Position – Speed – Look (MSM/PSL) routine before you merge onto the motorway.
You must give priority to traffic already on the motorway: don’t force your way into the traffic stream.

Driver refused to let me onto the dual carriageway off the slip road. No hazard for him to have moved into the right hand lane to do so. Continued to tail gate me, once at traffic lights, confronted me in car by trying to pen my car door. Then chucked an orange, yes an orange at my car as he drove off.

Should start off with either "I don't have a clue how to drive and cannot understand why other drivers are following the Highway Code when I'm following my own little made up code." Or "I'm 'entitled', follow my own rules and am far superior so shove over or else!"
