The problem I see here is the way the rider reacted.
. Name-calling
. Rude hand gestures
. Supposition ("probably" drugs or fleeing accident)
It might seem hard but you have to try and deal only in facts, not emotion. In some cases the police have nullified any reproach on account of words and actions like yours. I am not saying it was your fault you got hit from behind and I am glad everyone is OK, just be careful you don't inadvertently provide someone with a means by which to mitigate or absolve their wrong-doing by virtue of the way you approach them.
