"“Those who are committing any other offence as well as the ‘close pass’ due care offence will be prosecuted for all offences, no immediate educational alternative for those who show such a low standard of driving.”

Anyone with a camera, regardless of their mode of transport, can help the police by recording incidents in case they are needed for later use. The message given by the police seems crystal clear: treat cyclists like dirt and we'll come down on you like a ton of bricks..drivers like YOU are the reason why we have to.

Contact the police and tell them your plans. This goes to any cycle hater making threats/promises to disregard cyclist welfare and put people's lives at risk on purpose. All of you are full of crap and deserve prosecution including public order offenses. Not one single one of you has posted your reg to date. You are all cowards hiding behind your keyboards and cars, and more and more your days of rage are numbered.

The law is closing in on you.

Threatening to put people's lives at risk, 'Cyclist hater'? If you drive post your reg to show how little a deterrent it is. Then the footage can be passed onto the police for future reference. The driver in this video has ALREADY been traced AND warned by the POLICE. Now post your reg. Let's see how big your little your bark is compared to your bite.

The 1.5m or more refers to speeds of 20 mph or high. At less than 20 mph it should be at least 1m. The Highway Code is very specific on this.

As the video shows, the driver was not only tail-gating but also passed dangerously close. Treating cyclists as equals could have avoided it all - the driver is at fault, not only for their sub-standard driving but also their attitude. What on earth are they barking on about "road tax" for? it doesn't exist: it was abolished in the 1930's. Using such nonsense to try and justify the pass seems to imply the driver did it deliberately, in which case I would try and go for dangerous driving. Not so long ago a vicar was squashed to death by someone like this driver, passing too close and if they don't want to learn then just ban them from the roads. The rule is very simple: give cyclists room and don't pass where there is insufficient room. No wonder the driver was warned, and from what I've read the word on the street is the police intended to take it even further. There is enough death on our roads without drivers like this adding to it. And to the usual idiots on here posting hate just because you see a bike..grow up and get a life. I drive and ride bikes. I try to share the road and be respectful as required of me. If you can't or won't do that and all you want to do is come on here and waste time posting your rubbish then your luck on the roads will run out sometime. The West Midlands Police may just be there to bring the footage of you to court, and it will be posted here there and everywhere for all to see.

'Motorists who drive too close to cyclists as they overtake are being targeted by police officers on bikes.
Officers in the West Midlands will radio details of "close-pass drivers" for patrol car colleagues to intercept.
Cyclists should be given at least the same space as vehicles, widely considered to be 1.5m (4.9ft), and offending drivers risk prosecution, the force said.
Drivers stopped will initially be offered warnings at the roadside.
Read more news for Birmingham and the Black Country
But repeat offenders, or anyone deemed to have driven "dangerously close," could expect to be prosecuted for driving without due care and attention, the force said.
'Sometimes deliberate'
The force is carrying out an operation on some of the region's busiest routes, including Hagley Road, Pershore Road and Bristol Road, in Birmingham.

Traffic officer PC Mark Hodson, said: "Cyclists may suddenly need to avoid uneven road surfaces or obstacles like drain covers so it's important to afford them plenty of room."
David Cox, chair of trustees at cycling charity Cycling UK, said the problem "may be due to ignorance of the Highway Code and carelessness but sometimes it is done deliberately and aggressively".
Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) road safety manager Nick Lloyd said: "Ideally cyclists would not need to mingle with traffic on the roads, and a lot is being invested in road infrastructure to make this a reality."
But he said "until this happens we need to make sure we are educating". '

The cyclist didn't need them - they were already in their lane. If you're saying they need signals then, where's the driver's indicators, including whilst passing and pulling over? Consequently, pulling over also cut up the cyclist more than once. And where's YOUR view on the driver's actions, as well as the fact the police have now formally warned them?

Would YOU do this to a car? Then DON'T do it to a cyclist because you're supposed to give them the same room. It's not rocket science but the consequences are deadly serious should still think it's acceptable to treat human life with the same level of disregard as that shown by this apparent imbecile did.

p.s. The driver has also been formally warned by the police for to curb their behaviour. The police reportedly also wanted to see this go to court so that the driver could be prosecuted. This is not a case of the cyclist impeding traffic; this is the case of an irate fool behind the wheel of a killing machine being unwilling to share the road under some ridiculously deluded notion they own it on account of paying something they don't. Unfortunately for them and their ego the law of this land has found them culpable - let's see them rage at a judge about road tax!

The cyclist was under no obligation to move over. The responsibility was on the van driver to give the cyclist room and only over-take where it was both safe and practical. The van driver failed on all levels. Indeed, had the cyclist moved over there would have been a good chance the driver would have put their life at risk the same way, by over-taking far too close. It's crystal clear. The cyclist and the driver cannot safely fit in the same space and therefore the driver is in the wrong for trying to use their vehicle as a weapon. They are also wrong for aggressively threatening the cyclist, and wrong on the (non-existent) road tax they somehow think they are paying. The driver's arrogance and disregard for human life in this video is as clear as day. If you don't want to give cyclists room then don't drive. Its as simple as that.

I am not the cyclist in question and have no affiliation with them whatsoever. This is merely a video I came across that I would like to embed a link to.

Van driver tailgates cyclist and passes where they shouldn't, forcing the cyclist to panic. Driver then stops without warning and without any form of provocation becomes abusive and threatening, attempting to cite non-existent road-tax as a justification for such cretinous behaviour. They also admit to seeing the cyclist but claim they were in the "middle of the road", whereas it's clear there is only one middle here, in which the cyclist was positioned: the middle of the LANE. The middle of the road would put the cyclist on the central reservation. The driver then states cyclists should be "on the left" at all times..yet in the same breath claims to "know the law". Another clear example of yet another driver who thinks they own the roads.

As a result of their pathetic display the driver has now formally warned by the police. One might assume the driver's records are now on-file.

Also for the record. The driver of LM56LJO (black taxi) has also been observed.

GD16HGM. My contacts do a lot of deliveries in that region. They drive all manner of vehicles. Should you ever feel inclined to act like a (insert appropriate word here) and endanger the lives of innocent people, then know this. The cameras those associates use are at least 1080p, have crystal-clear audio, and will be filming a public space. Any footage obtained will not be intentionally blurred. Your driving was disgraceful and so was your attitude.
