Your question seems quite loaded. The driver was being aggressive, verbally and physically. He attempted to justify this by accusing the cyclist (aka "you lot"[??]) of damaging his wing mirror. He then threatened ordered the cyclist to pull over so he could physically assault him and also entered the cyclist's personal space. Contact was made - this is assault in my book, regardless of whether the aggressor was in a car, riding a bike or just walking on the pavement. He shouldn't have done it. There is no justification. The cyclist was also on the same route as the driver.. hardly following. If anything the driver was following the cyclist, in a very menacing way. Now what I personally think the cyclist did wrong was stop.. never stop, unless you have to. If someone then tries to assault you and you cannot get away well THEN you are fully licensed to fuck them up and stop when they no longer pose a threat. To re-cap: the cyclist spoke to the driver over a busted mirror and the driver became aggressive.. whilst I feel the cyclist's approach could have been better, I do not see them as the cause. And if that driver is reading this, take note: the next person you assault might cause you to have a very bad day my friend - and in the same circumstance as that shown here I doubt very much it would be the cyclist sentenced in a court because you approached them in an aggressive, threatening manner, and you swore and shouted and made threats of violence towards their person. The biggest cock I see here is that driver.
