We all make mistakes. Just because someone makes a mistake doesn't mean they're out to be an asshole. You seem to have confused the two groups. When you respond to their actions with aggression and abuse, it raises the likelyhood they will respond in kind - it stops being about driving and quickly descends into a battle of ego's, of wits, and of feeling threatened on both sides. Your body's instincts take over (fight or flight) and your judgment is impaired.
Worse, there is certainly no shortage of a sizable minority people in that area tooled up and ready to roll. They're one step away from a police cell..a court..and a murder charge. Are you really going to risk all this, over something like this? By all means remonstrate if you must but I don't personally think you did yourself any favors by going in with all guns blazing. If you have no choice then it's different but in my opinion you had the choice here. Let it go.
Footnote: the references to courts are in no way meant to be any kind of declaration of intent. It's just my assessment of decades on foot, on two wheels and on four. In a split second you can go from a civil dispute to having to fight for your life against someone with a weapon. Is it worth it? And anyway look how stressful it made you, and your friend. Maybe if you'd remained calm the other driver might have just put their hand up and waved sorry..
Sorry but I think you escalated this. By that I mean being verbally aggressive, including name-calling. The police could use it against you. Of course, spitting in your face would be disgusting and unacceptable. They clearly panicked..why not live and let live, slow down and say to yourself fucking hell that was close? Done and dusted.
Honda Jazz idiot parked on the wrong side of the road on double yellow lines, indicates but doesn't wait and pulls out into my path without any thought to oncoming traffic. Stops and winds down window to give me abuse (I rightfully give it back) and then proceeds to spit in my face! I hope you enjoy it when the police come knocking on your door because I've logged the incident with them dickhead.
