I see your point re shit parking but it seems to me you deliberately antagonise people. Perhaps I'm wrong. One day you might meet a proper headcase.

I agree with with you in principle, but not practice.

Putting "dick-head" on a yellow sticker is a bad idea - you have to take the moral high ground from the start, even if your actions seem counter-intuitive.

Put a polite note on the cars. Stay ON the pavement because then you are a pedestrian and for whatever reason the police tend to treat pedestrian issues more seriously. Don't stay on the road. Stand behind your bike and if they come and take a kick of fist, or get in your face, simply stand back and warn them to stay back.

By this time they're already guilty of a Public Order Offense. If they continue then you should either leave or attack solely in self-defense. It's you or them at this point, and you should take no chances in defending yourself..remove then threat then calmly stand back. Do not be tempted to continue.

After you've stood back call the police (ref: assault on you, attempted theft of your bike or other personal items, if applicable). Whilst waiting for the police to arrive gather potential witnesses and any CCTV or dash-cam footage. Only make a citizen's arrest if absolutely necessary and before you do it, tell the accused what you're doing.

Important: At no time swear or name-call. Sometimes it can be taken into account but only if you are genuinely threatened and are panicking for your welfare. You have to stay the right side of the law with people like this because they WILL try and use your actions against you, it's how they run.

As for the kicker, if you did that to me I'd smash you in the face with my bike lock. It's that simple. You'd probably lose teeth and bone. And I don't go looking for trouble but after several incidents whereby people have tried to mug and attack me, I no longer take chances. You get one warning. If you give me no time I'm going to react accordingly. So you're probably very lucky that day.

Never look for trouble. Put your stickers on. If trouble looks for you, know how to deal with it. The council should also do their job here..the risk they are causing to cyclists is considerable.

I will also relate something that happened to me with the police.

I witnessed someone acting anti-social and making threats and I called the police. They said they wouldn't come out as quote no crime had been committed.

A few days later the same person causing problems tried to cause some more and I stepped in to take them down. They didn't like the police being called on them even if the police didn't turn up.

Well too bad for them because like I say I am old-school and grew up having to look after myself. I could have took their head off but after they left the scene I thought leave it cus I am just gonna end up on a charge for something as the law is an ass.

Now this all could have been avoided if the police came out the first time, and dealt with the situation that was unfolding. And I see this same situation repeated over and over again, with people's lives being put at risk on bikes, on cars and on the pavement only to be told that basically the police cannot be bothered.

You however do anything and they'll be there like a shot, to shut you down.

My experiences could have easily tainted my view but I don't let them because I have also had good experiences of the police..officers who genuinely try to help and understand people's frustrations. But their hands are tied. This is why it's so important to have a camera these days..it doesn't guarantee safety or immunity from prosecution but it can be very helpful after the event. It can also provide a deterrent but again that is no guarantee.

But it all boils down to the same question, doesn't it? What am I doing here? If this place is so bad and most of the people aren't willing to change it for the better then to hell with it all. I would say that the worst parts of Britain I have lived in have been the Midlands, the North-east and certain parts of London, as well as Milton Keynes and Stafford. A lot of this country is now gone, unfortunately, and it's all becoming one big third-world mess. We have our beloved social engineers/parasites in charge to thank for that..

Well said 05:24:51. When I am driving and walking I do get the impression that these most people just don't care..too busy with their heads in their phones.

I myself am old-school and I take a different view, but as we know anything "old" these days is often seen as somewhat unfashionable. I believe in being courteous to people and not using the "f" or "s" word in every sentence, but it's like I feel as if I am an alien on account of the sheer volume of people that do the exact opposite. You say anything and you are public enemy, open for abuse and assault. It's all "me me me" and to hell with anyone that gets in my way.

This is why I always say be extra careful when approaching people and never under-estimate anyone, including kids. I don't think the references on the yellow stickers helped though, it's designed to offend and as such people with a certain disposition will be more than offended. You have to look after your own personal safety and work double hard not to end up on the wrong side of the law, because the law itself is weighted in favor of the criminals.

What a crazy world we live in these days.. I am sad to say I no longer recognise the country I was born in a often wonder what the bloody hell I am doing still living here. Maybe it's just me but I know a lot of people who feel the same way.

Although the above sounds plausible the police are not interested. They've got their hands full from either all the government cutbacks and having to arrest the same scum they arrested 2 months back for stabbing who has just been released from prison two days ago or donuts and cream cakes.

They just aren't interested unless you've actually been assaulted and have the injuries to show and there's no evidence that you antagonised the situation.

It's a matter of fact that in todays society most people under 30 just don't give a shit about anybody else. I'm alright Jack. They know if they break a law they'll get a slap wrist and it ain't nothing.

If I was bike rider - I'd just slowly ride past these lazy uncaring, selfish, inconsiderate parkers and just upload to this site or one of several others. Maybe if it was a taxi I'd be sending a report to the local council. Business I'd be sending an email.

Gone, sadly, are the days of mutual respect and responsibility.

@ 20:44:01 Define "trouble". You include assault in that, I take it? So you're saying the person filming asked to be assaulted? Get real. The person who assaulted them is certainly asking for trouble.

See if there's any shop or high street CCTV. I'd be very surprised if there wasn't. They seem like a right pair of yobs and the yellow notes are no excuse to act in that way. The police should do their job on this instead of trying to avoid the paperwork? Keep the cams rolling as well..if they're like this off the road imagine what they are like on it.

Quote from video description:

"SJ05VJN
SJ05 VJN

18th August 2017, 13:10, Leith Walk, Edinburgh

This guy takes offence at me putting a fake parking ticket on his van which reads "Nice parking, dickhead", and kicks my rear

wheel, bucking it to the extent that it needs replaced. He and his friend / collegue / lover continued to give me abuse the

entire time I was on the phone to 999, to the extent that the woman I was speaking to in the control room asked me to leave the

area for my safety and kept asking if I was ok and if they were still there.

We also get a bonus rant about road tax, how I legally have to use the bike lane that's not in use, and how it's illegal to ride

on the road, and how it's illegal for me to touch his van.

I reported this to the police who were unable to attend due to being too busy, and officers came to see the video this morning. I

was told that if I was to pursue it, that the driver would likely want to press charges against me for threatening behaviour

(lol), and I would struggle to prove that he damaged the bike because the video doesn't show him kicking it.
Furthermore, in order to get any compensation from him, he'd need to be convicted and the court would need to decide that I was

owed compensation, a process that would take "a long time".

I was told that they *can* continue with this, but they advised against it.

*sigh*"
