I'm inclined to agree with Thom.
This is why so many drivers in lane 1 refuse to move out to lane 2 to accommodate less aware drivers to merge onto the motorway without incident.
Because of people like this mercedes driver either speeding up and leaving them stranded in Lane 2, looking like a middle lane hogger or 'making progress' too quickly.
The irony being that this particular car would be fitted with blind spot monitoring - makes the driver twice the moron for ignoring them.
