I drive this foul but fast VW Polo 1.9TDI130 on the onze and the vingt cinq, when I cant work from home (or office 2, a train ride away). I regularly indulge in a bit of undertaking on the vingt-cinq, where the quality of driving mirrors societal frailty [the massed ranks of those near humans armed only with NAAFI flaunt their urge to be deceased, with their utter failure, acquired more often than not from their hate-filled parents, to celebrate life through love]. They synthesize happiness by occupying lane 3 in perpetuity. When I'm not nearly killing myself on a motorway, obey speed limits within reason, always give priority to other road users where practicable [pedestrians, cyclists], and never pollute excessively [gentle acceleration, key off at standstills >30 seconds]. I tend to keep the fan off so I dont breathe any more PM2.5 than I must. I long for us all to realise the folly of moving around at the same time in the same way. I pity aspirational shows of strength [most especially all Land Rover brand car drivers, who excel at this, closely followed of course by usual German and Swedish XC suspects]. But a large Volvo is a curable condition, whereas German skin conditions are very difficult to shift. When you see a man in a Discovery trying to go 100 on the M11, you want to reach out and help him buy a car the right shape for his urges. But he knows already ... an Audi A7 is too low for him. Maybe watching The Grand Tour could help these pretend land owners. The main reason for this rant : the place we are in already is the one we must learn to love. 7.442 billion cannot all pollute at once, so respect the other 7.442, stay home grow a plant instead, have a friend round and share some laughter, in the clean air.
