Let's hope insurers take a positive step and hike your premiums sufficiently to force you to ride public transport as anything else requiring your undivided attention has just been ruled out.
Yes it was only a slight fender bender but after months, if not years, of publicity and warnings and the fact you can get, if not already factory fitted, a bluetooth handsfree kit for less than £30 you still, like many others, chose to break the law, put innocent people in danger or cause an unnecessary delay to other road users
There is no excuse and those caught/identified should be publicly named and shamed in the same manner if you were a racist/sexist/homophobic.politician/actor - you are a danger to others.
Some of these riders are just plain arrogant. For instance lane-splitting at speed then getting pissed off when someone doesn't see them. I can understand being angry if the driver does it on purpose, that's different, but lane-splitting at speed means many people just won't see you quickly enough.
If you have to ask yourself why then ask whether you are the problem, and whether you are fit to ride a motorbike competently.
Lane-splitting at speed is not like filtering past slow or stationary traffic and it not recommended for the bleeding obvious reason it puts you in people's blind spots, especially when you suddenly and without warning or indication decide to want to enter another lane. Indication is just a declaration of intent, it is not a right.
And then there's the speed. Going fast in a built-up area is asking for trouble. Your thinking distances is drastically reduced and again, many people simply won't have time to react. That includes people legally changing lanes, only to have you come racing up behind them - you make it harder for people to judge your speed when you choose not to ride with traffic flow especially if you are on a bike.
And then there's the pedantic riders..everyone else is at fault, everyone else should be called out and policed by myself, but never should myself be questioned. I can go from zero to rage in milliseconds and wow betide anyone who gets in my way.
And no, I don't hate bikes. I ride one. I love biking. But climb the forest and see the tree's..some of these riders are effectively looking for trouble and then acting surprised when they find it. The journey can be made easier and safer simply by applying some basic common sense and common courtesy to other road users.
Let's hope insurers take a positive step and hike your premiums sufficiently to force you to ride public transport as anything else requiring your undivided attention has just been ruled out.
