I didn't say anything about "road tax". I specifically did not mention "Road" because i knew someone would try and be a smartarse and say road tax doesn't exist .... and here you are.
The whole reason i mentioned tax is because it's one of the first things that anti-cyclists (like this idiot clearly was) spout about so i was setting the record straight.

What an absolute cunt this driver was. Clearly one of those dickheads on the road who gets upset by a cyclist. I'm tucked in to the edge of the road on the A6, no oncoming traffic and this prick drives as close as he can to me so that his wing mirror damn near clips me.
Yes i own a car and the tax on it is probably more than what you pay pal. I have just as much right to be on the road as you do so grow the fuck up you childish prick. You're lucky i don't have a cam on my helmet.

Ownership of a car and tax is irrelevant. Car tax doesn't pay for roads - almost everyone pays including cyclists, through local and national taxation. So you are actually paying a disproportionate amount because almost all road damage comes from vehicles. "Road Tax" does not exist.
What's most important is that you have -as you correctly state - as much right to be on the road. If the driver doesn't want to share the road - as required - then they are the problem, not cyclists, not other drivers. Them. They agreed to share the road as a condition of the license. Solution for them: grow a pair and walk..before you kill.
