Difficult to tell whether it was a beep of impatient's or just a beep of thank you for pulling over I think it was just warning to the learner that that another car was going to pass them. An impatient driver would not have slowed a safe distance behind, then bothered to use his indicators before going past. He could even have squeezed past without even slowing down! However being beeped at in your first lesson would be off putting.

Anybody with an ounce of common sense can see that the driver was just using their horn as a means of thanking, they didn’t keep their hand on the horn nor did they speed around when overtaking like the majority of people would who were annoyed at that situation.
