If you want to change lanes or turn onto another road you should use this device before commencing the manouvre.
This is best used with something called "forward planning" and "common sense". It's benefit is to warn or better still inform those behind you of your intentions and it has been known when used correctly to avoid "angry man", accidents and more importantly death.
Now I do know, from experience, that this was taught to you whilst you had driving lessons and I also know, from experience, that you needed to use these when you did your test because if you didn't then you wouldn't legally be allowed the privilege to drive.
Now normally I wouldn't post such basic driving etiquette failure but unfortunately you changed lanes more times than Theresa May has said "Strong and stable" and I thought it best if I used this site to warn others.
What a absolute toss pot this guy driving. He had a white shirt and tie on. He is dangerous and needs taken of the road. He almost lost control cut us off & passed our car with our 1 & 3 year old in the back at about 90mph on a 50mph road. The dangerous idiot WILL kill someone
