Wow... Just wow, left the car pretty much abandoned in 2 parking spots and the road at the same time. Astonishing we allow people on the roads with such basic knowledge...

YC56 XWN (Illegal parking)
Ace Cars perhaps, but certainly not an ace driver!

This taxi is parked (nay, abandoned), "crashed" onto the pavement, actually on the curve of the junction, and way short of 10 metres from said junction. Given how this vehicle is parked, is it any wonder it has lost it's front wheel trim?

Note also that this is a "staggered cross road" junction, with traffic emerging from opposite doing so with limited lateral visibility due to the walls of the bridge. This taxi driver's parking is therefore especially dangerous given the extra hazards presented by this already complex junction. And 100 metres beyond the bridge is a large school, so there are times when this junction is exceptionally busy with both vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

A close-up of the errant driver's vehicle, showing the registration number, is available.

Under the UK Highway Code the driver of this vehicle is actually committing a criminal offence by parking in a way which "causes any unnecessary obstruction of the road"... see section 242 of The Highway Code, pasted below for reference.

This driver is actually in contravention of no less than three separate parts of The Highway Code, one of which is enforceable by law.

Here are extracts from the relevant sections:

PARKING

239

If you have to stop on the roadside:

Do not park facing against the traffic flow.

242

You MUST NOT leave your vehicle or trailer in a dangerous position or where it causes any unnecessary obstruction of the road.

[Laws RTA 1988, sect 22 & CUR reg 103]

243

DO NOT stop or park:

Opposite or within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space.

Extract from the introduction to The Highway Code:

“Many of the rules in the Code are legal requirements, and if you disobey these rules you are committing a criminal offence. You may be fined, given penalty points on your licence or be disqualified from driving. In the most serious cases you may be sent to prison. Such rules are identified by the use of the words ‘MUST/MUST NOT'. In addition, the rule includes an abbreviated reference to the legislation which creates the offence. An explanation of the abbreviations can be found in ‘The road user and the law'.”

This driver has...

...parked facing against the traffic flow, in contravention of section 239.

...left his/her vehicle in a position where it causes unnecessary obstruction of the (safe use of) road, in contravention of section 242.

...parked within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, in contravention of section 243.
