You get people like this on foot and on bicycles. That does not mean I'm in any way defending these two in this car. Where I live, you will get people who purposely go out looking for trouble in any way they can find it and their only recourse is abuse, swearing and violence. The trick is not to come down to their level, and to keep your distance. Do not approach them. Do not engage with them beyond telling them it's on film and being reported to the police. Honestly, the fuckers are no stranger to the law and they know what lengths they can go to before they breach it and are banged to rights. Do not react, however tempting it may be. If you got no other choice then fuck 'em..it's on. But don't enter in their world by coming down to their level. The less you react on their level, the angrier they get and the more they are likely they are to lose their own argument and end up in court. Ever seen a security guard or police officer that deals with fucks without having to so much as lift a fist? Then just goes about their day, unabated. Be that person. It's not easy. It takes practice especially when you'd love to teach them a lesson about manners, but it does not work that way and the justice system won't see it that way either - unless you have no other choice. Reason, logic and the human spirit that refuses to submit are the fuck's worst nightmare.
Passenger says you endangered them because they had to move over to overtake.
Absolute crap. The only person endangering them is the driver - it is THEIR responsibility to only over-take if it is both safe and practical, it is not the other commuter's responsibility to think on their behalf.
As mentioned, cup in hand, possibly no seat-belt, illegally crosses solid line on red, threats, abuse, over-taking at lights..is THAT safe and practical? The driver had every choice here to abide by the HC and stay back. They chose not to. Don't blame other people for your stupid and dangerous driving, Mr DG05 VKE.
Mate, just get a horn. When approaching the lights take primary, if you feel safe and confident in doing so.
As for these two. You are dealing with an intellect that is predominantly focused on macho bullshit, because of the way you reacted in oder to alert them to the threat they posed. That's how they roll. Not with intellect but with macho bullshit.
The other side of their intellect is geared towards spouting absolute crap regarding road safety. The passenger's interpretation of the Highway Code is dire. And then, having been defeated mentally, he does what all silly young men do: reacts with threats of violence, and name-calling.
Avoid this where possibly by fitting a horn. Many, many people will try and mitigate or absolve their wrong-doing by claiming you were being threatening (shouting) and abusive (swearing). You would startle me, as a passenger or driver although I understand why you yourself felt startled. Just let the horn do the talking.
p.s. Over-taking on the approach to a red light..driver, please do that on a test. Let's see you explain your driving to a driving instructor and let's see you explain the behaviour of yourself and your passenger to a police officer. You might not like the outcome but hey, we all have to learn somewhere (it's just a pity you're not doing it BEFORE you get in a vehicle).
p.s. Anyone ever threatens you just weigh up the situation. Do not react with violence unless you have no other choice. Simply keep your distance. Stand on the pavement. Tell them it's now being passed onto the police. People like this are cowards but they're the one's in a car and your life is too precious to be coming down to their level of caveman intellect..
The ONLY way people like this will learn is when two things happen.
1. You react more calmly
2. The law takes a MUCH stronger stance on their wrong-doing.
