They turned on their sirens near shopping centre, so I moved and as I got to the shopping centre I saw the officers going in to a greggs!!! Was their pasty getting cold or something they shouldn't be driving a car, they should be riding bikes to patrol a park!!!
Crime of the century this, I hope the officer involved is sentenced to a 1000 years in prison for such a horrendous crime. Soaking a man that was already wet??? :O Such crimes on humanity need severely punishing.
Also... at the traffic lights why was the copper not keeping left, or if turning right indicating - guilty either way?
Its hard to respect those that don't even demonstrate reasonable or even law abiding standards, whould said officer have passed his driving test if driving like that?
Par for the course for Hampshire police I'm afraid....their recruitment slogan is ....... "failed your taxi test....don't worry we'll let you drive (cough cough) a police car...." ;-)
Looks to me like the esteemed officer was going a bit quick too (assuming the camera was travelling at at least 30 mph). Wet, busy built up area, no blues and twos. That alone should be enough for his superior to, at least, have a quiet word in his ear if nothing more. Disgraceful.
Undecided on this. In a lot of cases if a driver wants to soak a pedestrian they tend to veer towards them; in this instance the car's path is fairly straight.
It's covered under Section 3 of the Road Traffic act 1988, under "careless, or inconsiderate, driving"
To wit:
3 Careless, and inconsiderate, driving.
If a person drives a mechanically propelled vehicle on a road or other public place without due care and attention, or without reasonable consideration for other persons using the road or place, he is guilty of an offence.
3ZA: Meaning of careless, or inconsiderate, driving
(1)This section has effect for the purposes of sections 2B and 3 above and section 3A below.
(2)A person is to be regarded as driving without due care and attention if (and only if) the way he drives falls below what would be expected of a competent and careful driver.
(3)In determining for the purposes of subsection (2) above what would be expected of a careful and competent driver in a particular case, regard shall be had not only to the circumstances of which he could be expected to be aware but also to any circumstances shown to have been within the knowledge of the accused.
(4)A person is to be regarded as driving without reasonable consideration for other persons only if those persons are inconvenienced by his driving.
Spraying pedestrians with water from a puddle would be deemed as being "inconvenienced by his driving"
Not for or against but add this
Just because someone recorded the event and uploaded onto the internet and deems it to be an unlawful act - should the authorities trawl through all videos and catch and fine all other culprits?
Or would it not be a better world if efforts were channelled towards the local council (roads/highway maintenance), the water company (sewage/drainage) and the government for our piss poor roads which if fixed properly would stop these accidents
Cop157, obviously the car isn't cursed or hated by locals (locals only capture the drivers actions!). The reason it's been spotted multiple time driving/parking badly is because the police think they are above the law and can do whatever they like, which is why the public has lost faith in them. It's a rather sad state of affairs.
I see what Splash gordon, means. Ive often spotted police cars at ASDA and always thought they were on official business this one arrived just before me. I was doing my weekly shop and spotted the officers in the drink (alcohol) isle snack section and the bakery, they were in the queue at the check out and had lots of goodies. Wish I had a company car I could park in the TAXI RANK for nearly an hour to do my shopping... No crime fighting happening here unless those sandwiches need eating urgently
"At first police defended their actions - saying it was safer to drive through the large area of surface water rather than stopping abruptly or swerving onto the opposite side of the road. Now police have apologised and arranged to visit Jamie."
*At first? They maintain their safety position and have apologised for any inconvenience caused? Why infer the apology is somehow a climb-down? I don't think it was deliberate..storm in a tea-cup if you ask me.
As an ex humberside officer I am gobsmacked by this
if they cant plan ahead when driving normaly what chamce have they if they were on blues and twos
hitting a puddle at speed the vehicle could easly aquaplain hit the curb and end up killing that pedestrian
the officer concerned should be taken off driving and a lot more training given
alough i do notice that a lot of eastleigh police take there patrol cars too asda and do there shopping
prehaps standards have slipped since my days thank god im no longer attached to this sort of behaver
I doubt even for a second that the police driver soaked the pedestrian. No intent so no crime.
I agree with athe accessment, unfortunate that someone got an unintentional soaking, but to make a sudden maneuver in the wet, far more dangerous. T%hats the way risk assessments work, ie what has the greatest risk, then make judgements on this, in this case the cop probably had less than a couple of seconds to decide.
Police soak pedestrian after driving through puddle on Leigh Road Eastleigh Hampshire
Hampshire Constabulary claim the police officer would have deemed the situation too risky to avoid the puddle.
A spokesperson for them said: "It is likely that the officer made an assessment that as they approached this junction, it was safer to continue driving through the puddle rather than stop abruptly and risk causing another vehicle to run into the back of the police car, or avoid the puddle by swerving towards the oncoming vehicle on the other side of the carriageway.
If the camera car managed to avoid the puddle, why couldn't the police? That statement is complete bullshit. They just can't be bothered with the paperwork and hassle of disciplinary action. This country is screwed if this is considered a good standard of driving.
It's not fair if it was me driving the car the police would of taken action against me . I have lost faith in the fucker5
