This driver pulled out of Thornton Street onto Brixton Road, heading south, at 4.30pm on 7th July 2016 without looking and hit me (a cyclist) travelling north up Brixton Road. The driver, young, female, with a very young child in the passenger street, initially stopped and apologised. I asked her to reverse (as she was in the middle of the road), but she said "I don't have to" and drove off, no doubt realising this was going to delay her and potentially have an impact on her insurance. I was uninjured and the damage to my bike v minor, but she knew neither of these things, and left the scene which is a crime. With no witnesses, the police decided it would not be worth pursuing her for prosecution, which I completely understand, but this attitude when driving is incredibly dangerous and irresponsible so this is the best I can do to warn people of her potential future actions.
Hope you are doing alright after that horrible incident. Yes, very careless of them to leave the scene, and as you say, a criminal offence. Perhaps there is CCTV footage that can be call upon? I wonder if their insurer is also aware of this allegation? The police also make me sick: I've lost count the number of times I've seen cyclists' lives put at serious risk only for the police to basically say they couldn't give a toss.. and you wonder why (some) people get away with blue murder..
