^ .png file format for cross-comparison. As you can see there is almost no noticeable difference visually, between your .bmp file and the .png variant.

Just behind the yellow box preparing to move over to the left hand lane to clear the junction before the lights change. Just as I start to move out this idiot behind me decides to pull out as the last moment, without indicating, to go left, causing me to break and miss the lights and get stuck on the junction. http://rate-driver.co.uk/images/photos/20170111190945.bmp

Use .jpg (preferred) or .png for files mate. These are "lossy" formats that compress the data to make it smaller, whilst retaining most of the detail. In lots of cases the human eye can't see the difference. The .bmp format is uncompressed, so it's bigger and takes up more space, takes longer to load etc. Your file is over 2MB in size.. a jpg version is 0.5 mb and the .png version is 1.4mb.

If you want lossless compression for your own purposes/archives, use .tif. This will compress your file then decompress it when you load it again, hence no quality loss. The .tif format doesn't compress as well as lossy formats but the size difference can still be useful. If you've got a lot of .bmp files on your computer and your programs have finished with them, consider compressing them because you will save a lot of space.

Websites don't use .tif much at all; they prefer files to be as small as possible. Hope this helps mate :)
