Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Would be interested to know the full circumstances behind the incident. Maybe someone has a copy of the video? But again, maybe that wouldn't be a good idea in case it affects the outcome of any possible action taken..
Uploader's comment on YT description: "Ended when the guy took my ignition keys and threw them away."
Please describe in more detail, what you think happened. It looks like the person driving in the black car intentionally cut the cyclist up, as they drove their car into the wrong side of a junction. When that didn't work (knocking them off or assaulting them?) they raced ahead, approached the cyclist and twice assaulted them despite not being provoked. They also touched the cyclist's property (bike). Anything else anyone wants to add..be my guest.
By that time he could also have killed someone. As regards the extent of the law, the police aren't everywhere and sometimes I feel one has to take matters into their own hands. For instance making a citizen's arrest or just trying to calm the situation. What do you do when you see someone about to be killed on a bike, at the hands of some crazed-up bastard trying to run them over? There isn't much you can do besides step in and do something yourself to try and stop it. It's a life and death situation is it not? I have lost count the number of times I had decided to take the bike out instead of drive, and got no shortage of abuse. Why? Did I do something wrong? Did I contravene traffic regulations? No. It's simply because I am on two wheels and I am in front of them. So out come the shouts, the abuse, the threats, the throwing, spitting, swearing and using a car a weapon.
I am forever amazed at the sheer number of drivers out there who can't or won't drive in accordance with the rules when it comes to sharing the road with other road users, including cyclists.
I have seen that video before it was taken down, which does appear to show the driver approaching the cyclist and assaulting them several times. Wonder if the driver also knows, that you don't have to physically touch someone to be found guilty of assault. I also hope this incident has gone to the police and that the outcome of the case is going to be made public.
Although the anti cycling brigade will state "What happened before to give reason for this"
There is no excuse for this.
If you (as a car driver see anyone contravening traffic laws or a danger to other road users you need to report it to the police - it's their job to enforce the law not yours.
This little prick deserves a driving ban with the need to pass an advanced driving test after the ban before they should be allowed behind any vehicle requiring a driving licence. There is no excuse
But most likely he'll get a caution until he's done it the 3rd or 4th time by which time it'll be to late as he'll have committed aggravated assault or bodily harm
Anyone ever touches you then that's physical assault and hence fair game to defend yourself: poke the assailant in the eyes then punch them in the throat.
The apparent assailant is the one on the right, having exited the black car to impede traffic flow and twice assault the cyclist who, didn't appear to be acting aggressively. These are observational references only and all people are innocent until proven otherwise.
The video has been taken down now. Hoprefully it's because the police are considering taking action against the driver
