Well done. Don't engage with them in any capacity - ignore them. They're not the police irrespectrive of how much of a (comission-incentivized) power trip they may be on. A friend of mine got done by such a zealot; they ignored the yobs making fun of her weight causing her great distress, and just added to it. They didn't care. I told her next time say NOTHING to them - walk away. Walk into a shop or a taxi rank and say you're being followed, or get on a bus.. they cannot follow you in such places.
Like you say yes littering is bad but what's just as bad if not worse is power-mad little Hitlers looking for what they they perceive to be easy targets. All the best.

Absolute Idiot of an older woman, Goes round a roundabout in the wrong lane then cuts in front of me as she is in the wrong lane for the exit, almost takes the front of my car off :/ Then decides to do 30mph in the 40.. slams on the brakes for no reson whatsoever.. which didn't affect me as i was distanced.. makes me wonder if she had been drinking. Absolute Haggard Clown..

Either colourblind or just plain stupid. Ran a red light into incoming traffic and didn't even seem to realise.
Maybe pay less attention to lighting your cigarette and more attention to the road ahead.
