I agree with the instructor. We all had to learn once and were hopeless right at the beginning. It doesn't hurt to wait for a few seconds while the learner makes his manoeuvre.
Pricks do exist. And they exist because they think there are no consequences. It may be tough to do it these days but perhaps if this happens again drive to the nearest police station, if there's any still open, or at least report it straight away to 101 or 999.
