Nothing here to get too excited about, but just the sort of low level everyday lack of observation and anticipation I see all the time.
My guess is the driver has never noticed the markings, here or at other traffic lights, does not know what they are for, probably never will, probably doesn't care.
A minute later he was shaking his head at my driving, which may not have been text book, but was perfectly safe.

And then cautioned/section 59 for the attempted assault - I doubt the police have time for this in between re-catching that drug pusher/shoplifter/TWOCer they caught 3 weeks ago and got a slapped wrist n court
