I get this all the time. Now wonder several police forces are running a campaign against close passing and other infractions, some are also accepting video evidence.
Some people simply don't want to share the road with cyclists, and think they can invent their own rules of the road. I had one the other week do the very thing you describe here, it was a taxi, who wouldn't stay behind - as required - because the road was narrow, uneven, had recently been surfaced with chippings, was damp and had several junctions. Oh, and I was approaching a blind bend.
Yep, just like your experience, I had the tail-gating, the dirty looks and in my case being force off the road to make an emergency stop by someone using their car as a weapon.
Some people need to be prosecuted before they kill. It goes way beyond simple mistakes everyone can make and they only understand one language: courts, and fines.

Those high school kids need speaking to. If they can't control their mouths then as is life, their mouths will control then and land them in trouble. Perhaps if more parents took responsible for their children this wouldn't be such an issues..

What speed were you doing?
Also, had there been a crash would the driver pulling out be written up for not checking their exit properly?
Note: I am NOT trying to absolve the over-taker.
As an aside, I had a similar thing done to me the other day, the over-taker shot past as i was turning right at a junction causing me to slam on. However instead of saying sorry they tried to goad me into a fight, then brake check even though I was a safe distance away, then stop without warning and block the road. Finally they tried to ram their car into me when i tried to ride past. I got the reg. Can understand mistakes which we all make but some people it seems should not be on the road..
