I realize you're trying to do the right thing. However, please consider the danger you posed whilst following the car in question. You were WAY too close to the car mate.. practically not thinking distance. You were way too close to the parked cars.. all it takes is a car door to fling open (which happens a lot) or a person (especially a child) to dash out in front.. again, no thinking distance.
Even though you were trying to help, you should put safety first. But well done for caring.

02:40 You sped up as shown by your speedometer. You sped up to block the overtaking vehicle. You would fail a test for this and for good reason; this irrespective of what the over-taker was doing. You should have hung back to increase the gap. You're lucky your actions didn't cause multiple fatalities.
